Terrain: Excellent - timber and concrete construction
Oneroa loosely translates to 'Long walk by the beach'
The Oneroa cycle and walkway was officially opened on Saturday 1st August 2015. A crowd of around 300 attended. Temple Issacs blessed the walkway. Rongowhakaata Kaumatua Stan Pardoe spoke of the historic significance of the area.
The vision was to develop a high quality, culturally significant scenic cycle and walkway along the beachfront. It tells stories of navigation and settlement relevant to the area with a Maori design element. It showcases the beautiful coastal environment providing for both residents and visitors to the district.
There is an innovative design for the extension of the cycle and walkway which sees a combined boardwalk and concrete link created which tells the story of Waikanae while providing constant views of the sea. The 1km long walkway incorporates 400m of concrete and 600m of boardwalk.
Typically a wheelchair user who can walk a few steps.
Great access for young children traveling in pushchairs.
Good upper body strength can transfer own body weight.
